In October 1996, I came to Wuhu and set foot on another “expedition” as soon as the activity of commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory in “expedition” of the Red Army. At that time, there was nearly no large-scale car industry in China, and car consumption would be increasingly popular with the acceleration of China’s entry into WTO. I realized that it was a responsibility to be engaged in the self-owned brand automobile, as well as an indelible conviction and dream, that was to make affordable cars for Chinese people. Consequently, Chery emerged accordingly.
In 2011, Chery’s first car was well received and favored by people across the country as soon as it was launched to the market, and it broke the monopoly of joint-ventured cars in Chinese market, becoming the greatest “dark horse” in Chinese automobile market at that time. However, we should not be satisfied with it, and we should have greater ideals and continue to fulfill dreams, brand dream and international dream.
I used to investigate in Japan and South Korea several times, and I was shocked at their economic miracles. Besides, I was also thinking about the reasons behind. After the Second World War, the reason why Japan and South Korea could rise rapidly in a tiny area with deficient resources and develop powerful capital reproduction ability and brand penetration in foreign countries lay in their comprehensive trading firms, such as “Mitsui”, “Mitsubishi”, “Samsung”, “Hyundai”, etc. Besides, it also developed world-class brands, including Toyota, Panasonic, Sony, Hyundai, etc.
I hope that one day Chery would also become such a comprehensive trading firm and world-class brand. With this beautiful dream, we have tried diversified modes: firstly, to expand the single car industry to a broader transportation equipment manufacturing field, covering the passenger car, commercial vehicles, auto parts, ships, etc. enlarging the advantages of Chery in geometrical progression, such as the technology, talents, raw materials and supply chain; secondly, to develop the “internet” with automobile manufacturing as the platform and producer services, for instance, the auto finance, logistics, car rental and lease, camp, circular economy, merchandise trade, etc. to enhance and promote the manufacturing operations like the automobile, and realize the complementation and sharing of all production factors.
Over the past decade, although the rapid and sustainable economic development brings many opportunities and possibilities, Chery always sticks to “do what it deserves to do”, focuses on the industry and technology, and try to depict a more gorgeous chapter. In such an age full of opportunities and reforms, we strive for “innovation, responsibility and win-win”, interpret and practice the “China dream” in our unique way: keeping to innovate constantly, and grasping the internet + industry convergence 4.0 pulse, so as to make “Chery” a world-class brand and international group, and promote the transformation of China from a “manufacturing power” to “intelligent manufacturing power”.
I believe that one day people in any corner of the world would think of “Chery” as soon as they speak of “China”. This dream is destined to come true.
